Yours Humanly Receives Grant from Rotary Club of Walnut Creek

Chamber member Yours Humanly recently received a generous grant from the Rotary Club of Walnut Creek, also a Chamber member, in the amount of $2,500. Accepting the "big check" from Rotary Club President Trudy Triner at the Rotary Club's October 17 luncheon was Sunny Singh, founder & CEO of Yours Humanly, a nonprofit that works locally, nationally, and internationally to empower underprivileged children in underserved communities by providing access to quality education and computer technology.

"Education is a basic human right, and every child everywhere should be afforded that right in a safe and nurturing environment," says Singh. "We greatly appreciate the gift from the Rotary Club of Walnut Creek, whose mission of service to others aligns with our mission to help children succeed. The Rotary's grant will make a major impact on the lives of children in need, and for that, we are extremely thankful."

The Rotary grant funded the purchase of fully packed backpacks for 500 students in two Houston-area elementary schools whose school supplies were destroyed by the winds and rains of Hurricane Harvey. Yours Humanly sent the students back to school with brand new backpacks and the supplies they need to continue their studies: notebooks, pencils, markers, rulers, sharpeners, paper, glue sticks, folders, crayons, and other critical school supplies.

"The Rotary Club of Walnut Creek is happy to support the efforts of Yours Humanly, which, with this grant, is providing school supplies to children who lost so much to the devastating Hurricane Harvey," says Triner. "One of Rotary International's goals is to Support Education and strengthen the capacity of communities to positively affect basic education and literacy. We were pleased to hear of the great work being done by Yours Humanly on behalf of children in need. Our association with Yours Humanly is truly a perfect fit."
